General questions about Nanotol

How long does the nano coating last on a shower glass?
The basic coating with the Nanotol Sanitary Set and regular care with Nanotol Sanitary 1+2 can maintain a lifelong Nanotol effect.
Why is regular refreshing with Nanotol Sanitär 1+2 necessary
Unlike a window, the shower glass is stressed every time you shower. On the one hand, soap (foam from hair shampoo, etc.) runs over the Nanotol coating and on the other hand, water containing lime gets onto the surface every day. In the long run, both of these factors damage the coating and the effect wears off over time.
As a preventive measure, we therefore recommend cleaning every 1-2 weeks with Nanotol Sanitary 1+2 to remove any limescale that has already settled and to replenish any imperfections in the coating.
Why do some drops of water still stick?
Nanotol coating noticeably smoothes the surface of the shower glass. Gravity ensures that the water contracts and runs off. The more evenly the coating is applied, the more water runs off.
If a drop is very small, e.g. due to splashing water, it is not heavy enough, sticks and dries on the shower glass leaving a water stain. To minimise this, we recommend:
- Rinse off the shower glass after you have showered to "take along" splash water drops.
- Don't worry about possible water stains, because the limescale can no longer bond with the shower glass. You can wipe off the stain even after it has dried.
Why does the Nanotol beading effect look different from other nano coatings?
The angle between the surface of the substrate and the surface of the water droplet on it is decisive for the repellency or lotus effect. The contact angle is a measure for the wettability of the surface with water.
Super hydrophobic surfaces are characterized by big contact angles. The actual contact area is only two to three percent of the surface covered by a water droplet. The drop lies as if on a bed of nails made of crayons and touches only their tips. This decreases the attraction between the water and the substrate, the water droplets become round. They slide off at the lowest angle of inclination. The surface does not get wet.
In the development of Nanotol a great effort was made to leave the contact angle large enough to retain the self-cleaning effect but to enable the user to clean the surface with water.
Therefore, surfaces coated with Nanotol are water repellent but do not have an extreme lotus effect. A major benefit is that such surfaces are very easy to clean because water removes dirt and slides off.
Can I also coat my windows or car with Nantol Sanitary?
Nanotol Sanitary Protector can also be used on window glass or car glass. Nanotol Sanitary Cleaner, however, is acidic to dissolve limescale. Therefore, do not use it on window frames or car paint. The same applies to Nanotol Sanitary 1+2.
Please use the specific Nanotol Cleaner to prepare the surface and the specific Nanotol 1+2 care products to refresh the Nanotol coating.
Why doesn't water drips off?
If you do not have the beading effect, this may be due to the following reasons.
- the coating could not attach properly because either due to lime residues left on the surface or another precleaner was used, e.g. a glass cleaner containing alcohol or a descaler. Please do not use any other precleaner and allow Nanotol Cleaner enough time to soak, so that limescale can be chemically decomposed. The dissolved limescale should be removed with a rough sponge and rinsed off with plenty of water.
- the nanopolymers have not been sufficiently activated. This is done by polishing with the microfibre cloth. The Nanotol microfibre cloth applies heat via its rough surface, through which the activation takes place. You can feel the activation when the glass becomes ultra-smooth and the cloth glides easily over the surface. Please do not use any other cloths for this purpose.
- drops left on the glass are too small and light to run off. Please rinse off the shower glass briefly after you finished with showering. > 95% of the remaining water will drip off. Dry the remaining drops, wipe away or simply leave to dry, as limescale can no longer bond firmly to the glass. Lime stains can be easily removed with a damp microfibre cloth on a properly coated surface.
Please make sure not to use conventional bathroom cleaners on glass anymore, because they also contain anionic surfactants and alcohol. Instead, use Nanotol Sanitary 2in1. You clean hygienically, preserve the coating and refresh it again and again. Nanotol 2in1 cleans and coats at the same time and quickly. Spray on, spread and rinse off. Dry with a microfibre cloth. You only need to do this once in a while when the effect wears off.
You can check for yourself whether the coating was able to attach correctly, by touching the surface compared to another (similar) surface. The coated surface must be clearly, noticeably smoother. If this is not the case, the coating could not attach or penetrate the pores. In this case, please repeat the procedure as described above.
Where is the difference between the products in the catagories Car, Household and Sanitary?
In order for Nanotol Protector to attach evenly, the surface must be very clean before coating. The pre-treatment/cleaning is therefore very important and differs. In the sanitary area, there are usually limescale residues on the surface, for instance in shower cubicles. It is imperative that these are removed. That is why our Nanotol Cleaner for the sanitary area is acidic. Dirt on cars is often very stubborn. Here, too, the Nanotol Cleaner is effective. In the household area, there are very sensitive surfaces that need to be cleaned carefully. The Cleaner from the household category is therefore very gentle.
Each category has its own Cleaner, which is ideal for preparing the surface for subsequent coating. All cleaners contain no anionic surfactants, no alcohols or solvents and are easily biodegradable.
Consequently, the 2in1 products in the categories also differ because they clean and freshen up.
Stone surfaces can be prepared for Nanotol Protector Mineral Surfaces with a high-pressure cleaner. Textiles are washed and rinsed well before coating with Nanotol Textile Protector. There is no special cleaner for these two areas. However, both can be cleaned with Nanotol Household Cleaner in case of stubborn stains.
